Baptism Weddings Funerals

BAPTISMS

People often ask is 'What is the difference between a Christening and a Baptism?'. They are both the same thing. In baptism, as parents we are thanking God for his gift of life, deciding to start your child on the journey of faith and asking for the Church's support.

Baptism is also expressing a wish to join the Christian family and continue the journey of faith with the help of the local church.

WEDDINGS

In a church service there are readings from the Bible which explain the nature and significance of marriage.  The couple make promises to stay together ‘for better, for worse; for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; to love and to cherish until death us do part’.  It is a commitment for life, and not just for the times which are easy.  Prayers are said for the newlyweds, which recognise both the joys and difficulties ahead, and ask God’s blessing on the couple.

FUNERALS

Funerals are a very important way of marking the end of a life on earth. They are an opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to gather up the threads of the life of the deceased, to give thanks for them and to commend them to God's keeping.  The words of the service speak to us of hope, of the love of God and of life with him beyond death.
